EUGENE, Ore. - The UC Davis women's soccer team was edged 1-0 in the 88th minute of action by Oregon State Sunday on the final day of the University of Oregon Nike Tournament in Eugene, Ore.
With the loss, UC Davis now stands at 1-2 overall while Oregon State moves to 3-0 on the year.
The first half stayed even throughout with both sides showing strong offense. Oregon State's Chelsea Buckland took a shot only 15 seconds into the match, but UC Davis answered two minutes later with a shot from Allison Kelly. The Aggies would get two corner kicks and two more shots within the first 15 minutes while the Beavers took the offensive control back with two attempts and a corner kick of their own.
The teams closed out the first half nearly even in shots with UC Davis firing four attempts to Oregon State's seven. Additionally, the Aggies earned three corner kicks.
The deadlock continued into the second half as UC Davis put up back-to-back shots in the 50th and 51st minute and Oregon State responding with an attempt that went high in the 60th minute.
With less than two minutes left in the game, a cross from Courtney Wetzel found Ashley Seal who redirected the ball to Melinda Ingalls. Ingalls then redirected the ball around UC Davis goalkeeper Kathleen Brandl to put Oregon State up 1-0.
Brandl recorded a save while Oregon State goalkeeper Colleen Boyd had three saves.
For UC Davis, Lisa Kemp and Samantha Faber led offensively with two shots each while six other Aggies contributed shots. Buckland and Wetzel each posted four shots to lead Oregon State and Ingalls had three attempts of her own.
The Aggies will hold their home opener Friday, Sept. 10 as they welcome Cal State Bakersfield to Aggie Soccer Field for a 5 p.m. matchup.
UC Davis had two players named to the All-Tournament Team from the weekend. Lisa Kemp was one of the Midfielders honored, along with Aisha Lott joining the defenders on the All-Tourney team.
