FOLLOW
NOTES
UC DAVIS-GRAND CANYON SERIES
- UC Davis leads the all-time series, 7-1.
- All previous eight matches in the series came when both schools were Division II programs.
- The Antelopes won the first meeting with a 1-0 victory in Davis in 1996 before the Aggies rolled off seven straight victories from 1997-2003.
2026 SEASON
- HISTORIC FIRST MOUNTAIN WEST WIN: UC Davis made school history on Oct. 2 when the Aggies defeated Wyoming, 3-2, for their first-ever Mountain West win in their first home conference match as a member of the league. Jaycee DeFazio scored the game-winner in the 86th minute on an assist from Kaya Herndon.
- MORE ON THE MOUNTAIN WEST: UC Davis is a member of the Mountain West Conference for the first season after most recently being part of the Big West in 2025. The women's soccer program made UC Davis history by playing in the school's first-ever Mountain West match in any sport in a 2-0 loss at Air Force on Sept. 24 before dropping a second conference match Sept. 27 at Colorado College, 2-1, prior to the historic win over Wyoming. UC Davis was selected to finish eighth in the Mountain West in the league's preseason poll.
- OFFENSIVE PICK UP: UC Davis has scored five of its nine goals over the last three contests and had at least one goal in all three matches for the first time scoring in nine straight matches spanning the final six matches of 2024 and the first three of 2025. UC Davis tallied a season-best three goals in its 3-2 victory over Wyoming in its most recent match last Friday that were also its most since a 3-0 home victory over Cal State Northridge in the 2024 regular-season finale. The productive three-game stretch ended a season-long scoring drought of three straight contests at Loyola Marymount and Portland, as well as at home against Idaho.
- OFFENSIVE TEAM LEADERS: F Jaycee DeFazio and M Kaya Herndon share the team lead in both goals (2) and points (5), while D Courtney Wagner is now third with four points with one goal on a penalty kick against Wyoming and a team-high two assists (UC Santa Barbara, Pacific) while recent co-leader F Ashley Brewer is fourth with three. Herndon has all five of her points over the last three games with a goal at Air Force and a goal and an assist against Wyoming, while DeFazio had the game-winning goal against Wyoming. Wagner recorded her first goal of the season on a penalty kick against Wyoming. Brewer tallied a pair of points on her first UC Davis goal and the game-winner that was assisted by DeFazio and Wagner in a 1-0 win over Pacific. DeFazio also recorded a goal and Brewer an assist in a season-opening win at Fresno State when DeFazio rebounded Brewer's shot off the post and put it into the back of the net. D Kiley Fehrenbacher (at Fresno State), F Lakelee Perkins (UC Santa Barbara) and M Karla Sandoval (at Colorado College) also each have one goal for two points, while M Charlotte Henness (at Colorado College) and M Payton Henry (Fresno State) have one assist each for one point. Herndon has a team-high five shots on goal and shares the team with Perkins in shots (13). DeFazio (at Fresno State, Wyoming) has two of the team's three game-winning goals, while Brewer (Pacific) has the other.
- DEFENSIVE SUCCESS: UC Davis ranks tied for fifth in the Mountain West in shutouts (3) and shutouts per game (0.25), and sixth in goals allowed per game and goals against average (1.42).
- THREE DIFFERENT GOALKEEPERS HAVE SOLO SHUTOUTS: UC Davis is one of only two teams in the nation that have three different goalkeepers record solo shutouts with the other Chattanooga. Piper Wilkison has started a team-high seven matches, while Dena Frankel has started four and Cat Pieper one. Frenkel recorded her shutout in the season-opening win at Fresno State and started the first three matches but has played only once since against Idaho on Sept. 20. Wilkison started the next three matches and blanked Pacific in a 1-0 win on Sept. 6 in her third start then started in goal again at Portland and each of the Aggies' last three matches at Air Force at Colorado College and Wyoming. Pieper recorded her solo shutout in a scoreless tie at LMU in her first action of the season on Sept. 10 and then did not play again until relieving Wilkison due to injury in the second minute of last Friday's win over Wyoming. It marked the first time that the UC Davis starting goalkeeper did not play the full match in net. Pieper played the remaining 88:51 and picked up the victory, recording six saves and allowing a pair of goals. On the season, Pieper has a 1.01 GAA while allowing two goals with 10 saves in 178:51 minutes, while Wilkison has a 1.50 GAA while allowing nine goals in a team-high 541:09 minutes. Frenkel also has a 1.50 GAA with six goals allowed over 360 minutes. All three goalkeepers (Wilkison 16, Frenkel 15, Pieper 10) have double-digit saves.
- STAYING OUT OF TROUBLE: UC Davis has just eight yellow cards, which is the third-fewest in the Mountain West, although the Aggies have recorded four in their last three matches at Air Force and Colorado State, and against Wyoming. M Kaya Herndon has a team-high three yellow cards, while D Kiley Fehrenbacher has two, and F Ashley Brewer, M Savannah Cordero and D Sydnie Fong have one each. The Aggies have been flagged for only a single red card this season when D Ava Peterson was flagged in the 60th minute at Colorado College.
- LOTS OF PLAYERS SEEING ACTION AND MAKING STARTS: UC Davis has played 26 of the 28 players on its roster in at least one match over the first 11 contests, while 18 different players have started at least one match with 17 of those making at least three starts. Four players - D Kiley Fehrenbacher, D Sydnie Fong, F Lakelee Perkins and D Courtney Wagner - have started all 11 contests, while nine have played in all 11.
- SAME LINEUP IN BACK-TO-BACK MATCHES ONLY ONCE: UC Davis has started the same 11 players in back-to-back matches only twice this season against UC Santa Barbara and Pacific before doing it against in its most two recent matches at Air Force and Colorado College when the starters in both matches were GK Piper Wilkison, F Lakelee Perkins, D Ava Peterson, M Payton Henry, M Kaya Herndon, M Sydney Bushman, F Ashley Brewer, F Lisette Gregoris, D Kiley Fehrenbacher, D Courtney Wagner, D Sydnie Fong.
- ROSTER MAKEUP AND NEWCOMERS IMPACT: The 28-player roster is a nearly equal mix of returnees (15) and first-year newcomers (13), including six first-year transfers in F Ashley Brewer (Cal Poly), F Jaycee DeFazio (Cal Poly), D Sydnie Fong (San Diego/Nevada), GK Dina Frenkel (Purdue), D Stella Villalta (Santa Clara) and GK Piper Wilkison (Butler). UC Davis has had 11 first-year newcomers see the field with the six first-year transfers joined by five true freshmen in M Payton Henry, F Presley Henry, M Kaya Herndon, F Chloe Keating and D Samantha Murdin. The 11 first-year newcomers have played in a combined 103 games and made 53 starts.
- HERNDON AND FEHRENBACHER MOUNTAIN WEST PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: M Kaya Herndon and F Kiley Fehrenbacher have earned Mountain West Conference Freshman and Defensive Players of the Week. Herndon became the second UC Davis player to earn a weekly Mountain West award when she was selected as the conference's Freshman of the Week on October 5 for her performance in a 3-2 home win over Wyoming three days earlier when she scored the game's first goal and then assisted on Jaycee DeFazio's game-winner in the 86th minute. Fehrenbacher was the first UC Davis player to earn a weekly award from the conference when she was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 14 for her performance in a scoreless tie at LMU four days earlier. Fehrenbacher was one of five UC Davis players, along with goalkeeper Cat Peiper and fellow defenders Sydnie Fong, Ava Peterson and Courtney Wagner, to play all 90 minutes in the contest.
- FEHRENBACHER STREAK: D Kiley Fehrenbacher has started all 32 UC Davis matches played in 2025 (19) and 2026 (13) since transferring from Oregon prior to the 2025 campaign. UC Davis dropped a 2-0 decision to Idaho in its final nonconference match of the 2026 regular season. The match was scoreless until the 34th minute when Payton Oelkers beat Aggie GK Dina Frenkel to a bouncing ball then lofted a shot over her and watched it roll into the net. The Vandals took their 1-0 lead into halftime then put an extra goal on the board in the second minute of the second half when Kalina Barbosa struck unassisted from long distance at the 46:17 mark. Idaho would outshoot the Aggies the rest of the way 8-3 and never saw its lead seriously threatened while closing out the victory. The Vandals finished with advantages in shots (13-5), shots on goal (6-2) and corner kicks (4-0). The physical and intense match featured 24 fouls (Idaho 14, UC Davis 10) and three yellow cards (Idaho 2, UC Davis 1). MATCH 10 - AT AIR FORCE 3, UC DAVIS 1 - SEPTEMBER 24, 2026
UC Davis made history by playing in its first Mountain West Conference competition in any sport but was defeated 3-1 at Air Force in the league opener for both teams at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Aggies got on the scoreboard first when M Kaya Herndon notched her first career goal unassisted on a free kick from just above the top of the penalty box in the 14th minute of the match. UC Davis held onto its 1-0 lead throughout most of the first half until Jordan Dillingham headed in a corner kick from Annika Jost in the 35th minute to tie the contest at 1-1. The teams remained tied 1-1 until two early second-half goals by the Falcons provided for the winning margin. Clara Teigland put Air Force ahead for the first time with an unassisted goal in the 50th minute before Lauren Steinlage provided an insurance tally in the 54th on an assist from Addie Doyle.
MATCH 11 - AT COLORADO COLLEGE 2, UC DAVIS 1 - SEPTEMBER 27, 2026
UC Davis briefly tied the match on M Karla Sandoval's first career goal in the 86th minute but Bella Stewart answered in the 88th on assists from Charlotte Strabel and Nadai Cassamajor to break the tie and lift Colorado College to a 2-1 victory over the Aggies in a Mountain West match at Stewart Field. The teams played nearly 60 minutes of scoreless soccer before Ava Peterson was called for the Aggies' first red card of the 2026 season at the 59:23 mark while trying to stop Stewart from getting by her for a clear look at the goal. Stewart took a free kick just above the penalty box and six seconds later the Tigers had a 1-0 lead on a Strabel goal assisted by Stewart and Bella Mayne at 59:29. Despite being outshot, 4-0, over the next 30 minutes while playing a player down for the rest of the contest due to the red card, UC Davis was able to keep the Tigers' lead to a single goal and set up Sandoval's equalizer at the 85:24 mark on a sequence that started on a D Courtney Wagner corner kick and included an assist for M Charlotte Henness. The match looked to be headed for a tie until Strabel placed a nearly perfect ball in front of the left half of the goal and when UC Davis goalkeeper Piper Wilkison moved forward to try to cut it off Stewart snuck in front of her and headed it into the net.
MATCH 12 - AT UC DAVIS 3, WYOMING 2 - OCTOBER 2, 2026
UC Davis made history when the Aggies won their first Mountain West match while playing their first-ever conference game at home as a member of the league with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Wyoming. Jaycee DeFazio scored the game-winner in the 86th minute on an assist from Kaya Herndon. The Aggies came out on fire by scoring the first two goals of the match in under 12 minutes to take a 2-0 lead against a Cowgirls' team that entered the contest with a six-match win streak that was tied for the third-longest active win streak in college soccer. Herndon struck first in the fifth minute by scoring the second goal of her career on Lakelee Perkins' first career assist. Courtney Wagner followed by converting a penalty kick in the 12th minute for her first career goal after teammate Ashley Brewer was fouled in the box by Wyoming goalkeeper Haley Bartel. The Cowgirls got one goal back in the 20th minute when Alyssa Glover put the ball into the back of the net on an assist from Kiley Ballek. The score would remain 2-1 in favor of the Aggies until the 83rd minute when Wyoming's Maddie Burr headed in a rebounded free kick from Glover to tie the contest at 2-2. The Cowgirls would outshoot the Aggies, 6-1, the rest of the way but DeFazio's game-winner was the only one to find the back of the net. Goalkeeper Cat Peiper recorded six saves that were one short of her career high after coming into the match in the second minute after starter Piper Wilkison left with an injury following a collision in the box with teammate Kiley Fehrenbacher.
POSITION GROUPS
FORWARDS
The Aggies have used all seven forwards on their roster with members of the position group scoring four of the team's nine goals and accounting for three of its eight assists. Ashley Brewer scored the group's most recent goal in a 1-0 win over Pacific (Sept. 6) and also with an assist in the season opener at Fresno State is tied with Jaycee DeFazio (1 goal vs. Fresno State, 1 assist vs. Pacific) for the team's point lead with three. Lakelee Perkins is the only forward and one of only four players overall to start all 11 matches and arguably had the team's most beautiful goal, as well as her first goal of 2026 and second in her career, with a header off a corner kick by D Courtney Wagner in a 1-1 tie with UC Santa Barbara. Lisette Gregoris has started nine matches, while Brewer and DeFazio are both first-year Cal Poly transfers who have started seven and six matches, respectively. Presley Henry has played in all 11 contests off the bench, while McKayla Farrell and Chloe Keating have participated in 10 also all off the bench. Perkins' 12 shots are also tied for the team lead with M Kaya Herndon, while Perkins, Gregoris and Herndon are tied for the team-high with four shots apiece.
MIDFIELDERS
UC Davis has started five different players in the midfield with none making more than the seven starts by Savannah Cordero, Payton Henry and Kaya Herndon, while Sydney Bushman has six and Stella Villata five.
