Box Score

EUGENE, Ore. - Freshman Mary Beth Mazurek scored in the 75th minute, but Oregon took a 3-1 win over the UC Davis women's soccer team Friday at the University of Oregon Nike Tournament in Eugene, Ore.

UC Davis moves to 1-1 on the year while Oregon improves to 2-1-1 overall.

Neither team was able to take a shot until the 11th minute until Oregon's Kelsey Hones beat UC Davis goalkeeper Kathleen Brandl to score and put the Ducks up by a 1-0 advantage. As Hones made a run down the right side, Jen Stoltenberg passed her the ball and Hones was able to get around Brandl on the far side of the net. The goal was Hones' first of the year.

The offensive game grew stronger on both ends as the half progressed. A shot by UC Davis' Allison Kelly was saved by Oregon keeper Lindsay Parlee, and Brandl responded with back-to-back saves of her own. Kelly continued to attack the Oregon goal, but shots in the 17th and 18th minute were unsuccessful.

UC Davis held off 10 first half shots by Oregon.

As the second half began, Samantha Faber and Elise Winbrock each attempted shots for the Aggies, but couldn't find the back of the net. Oregon continued its offensive attack as well and a shot from Brynne Konkel in the 61st minute found its way into the back of the net. Tahne Apo crossed the ball into the penalty area, and Konkel fired a shot past Maria Magana, who began the second half in goal for UC Davis.

Mazurek cut the Oregon lead in half with her first career goal in the 75th minute. Mazurek received a corner kick from Faber at the top of the box, then struck a hard shot to bring the Aggies to within one goal.

Less than a minute later, however, Oregon would go up for good with a goal by Stoltenberg. Her give and go with Konkel allowed Stoltenberg to get a clean shot off that went in on the far side past Magana.

Kelly led UC Davis with three shots while Faber had two shots. For Oregon, Stoltenberg put up a game-high seven shots, five of which were on frame, while Scout Libke and Rianna Mansfield each recorded three shots.

Brandl recorded five saves while Magana posted four saves for UC Davis. Oregon goalkeeper Parlee had four saves.

UC Davis returns to action Sunday at 11 a.m. as the Aggies conclude the tournament by facing Oregon State.
