Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis women's soccer team took a convincing 3-0 win over the Montana Grizzlies, Sunday at Aggie Soccer Field in Davis, Calif. Kiele Argente, Allison Kelly and Lisa Kemp each netted goals for the Aggies en route to the win.

UC Davis out shot Montana 29-3 for the game and held an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. With the win, the Aggies improved to 5-3-1, while the Grizzlies dropped to 1-8-2 on the season.

UC Davis dominated the action in the first half, out shooting Montana 15-0 in the opening frame. The Aggies took advantage of an early opportunity in just the fourth minute, when Argente sent a shot into the bottom left corner for a goal.

Argente's goal for UC Davis was assisted by Kemp, who sent a through ball on the right side that resulted in a 1-0 lead for the Aggies. Despite controlling most of the action, UC Davis couldn't convert on their three other shots on goal and kept a one goal advantage during the intermission.

In the second half, the Aggies wasted little time scoring the second goal of the game, using a Kelly score to go up 2-0. After receiving the pass from Alexis Knudtson, Kelly ripped a shot from outside the 25, that bounced off the crossbar and down in for a goal.

The UC Davis attack continued in the second half, when Kemp gave the Aggies a three-goal cusion in the 65th minute. Argente and Annacy Wilson were each credited with assists, leading to Kemp's close range goal.

In the remaining 20 minutes of the game, UC Davis continued to controlled the possession. Montana didn't have many opportunities to cut into the defecit, as the Aggies closed out the game for a final 3-0 win.

Kathleen Brandl and Maria Magana split time in goal for UC Davis, with Magana recording three saves for the game. For Montana, Kendra McMillen tallied five saves in a complete game in goal.

Head coach MaryClaire Robinson was excited about her team's play following the game.

"What we wanted to do today was keep an up tempo pace," said Robinson. "That's going to most prepare us for conference. Early in the first half, we started out fast and then slowed down a little. The focus in the second half was to get the tempo up again."

"In order for the game to open up, we needed great ball movement and good angles and we did that today," continued Robinson. "That was great, we had great energy and great work rate. This is our last tune up before conference, so we really wanted to stay sharp and stay focused."

UC Davis will be back on the road next weekend to begin Big West competition, playing a pair of games, starting with Cal State Northridge on Friday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m.
