FRESNO, Calif. - After falling behind 2-0 vs. Fresno State, the UC Davis women's soccer team rallied to extend the game into overtime, where Samantha Faber scored a golden goal, to give the Aggies a 3-2 win Sunday at Bulldogs Stadium in Fresno, Calif.
Fresno State (4-3) held a 23-11 advantage in shots over UC Davis (2-2-1) and a 16-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Aggies managed to convert three out of four shots on goal, scoring once in each half and the overtime period.
After over 30 minutes of scoreless soccer, an eventful 10 minutes made it a 2-1 Bulldog advantage at half-time. Laura Dodd scored her third goal of the season for Fresno State in the 33rd minute of play, before Nicole Duff gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. UC Davis didn't take long to answer, thanks to an Allison Kelly goal on a penalty kick in the 42nd minute of play.
UC Davis continued to take advantage of limited opportunities in the second half, using just one shot on goal to even the score at two apiece. Annacy Wilson received a cross from Kiele Argente to score the equalizer in the 50th minute of play. After extending the game into overtime, the Aggies wasted little time, as Samantha Faber scored the game winner at the 93:23 mark.
Kathleen Brandl played the first half in goal for UC Davis, recording seven saves in that time. Maria Magana also tallied seven saves in the second half and overtime, while holding Fresno State scoreless. Kaitlyn Revel played the entire game for the Bulldogs and finished with one save.
UC Davis will be back in action next weekend, when they travel to play in the UNLV Rebel Classic, starting with Akron on Friday, Sept. 17 at 4:30 p.m.
