Box Score

Sept. 10, 2010

Final Stats

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The UC Davis men's soccer team scored a mere 10 seconds after kickoff, but Sacramento State scored twice in the second half to top the Aggies 2-1 in a nonconference match Friday at Hornet Soccer Field in Sacramento.

UC Davis drops to 1-2 overall, while Sacramento State earned its first win to move to 1-2 on the year and picks up crucial Causeway Cup points to contribute towards the overall rivalry standings.

Only 10 seconds into the game, Jason Santos sent a cross into the penalty area and Lance Patterson one-touched the ball into the back of the net to put UC Davis up 1-0. The goal was Patterson's third of the season and marks the third straight game in which he's scored. The last Aggie to score in three straight games was Quincy Amarikwa who achieved the feat in October 2008.

After taking the lead, the UC Davis defense held off eight shots from Sacramento State throughout the first half to preserve the Aggie lead.

Sacramento State scored the equalizer in the 50th minute as Fernando Cabadas' cross ended up curling into the back of the net.

Three minutes later, the Hornets took the lead for good after Sacramento State was awarded a free kick. The kick was headed from the goal line into the six-yard box and found Matt Linenberger who scored the gamewinner with one touch of the ball.

Patterson led UC Davis with two shots while Cabadas and Chris Bettencourt each tallied three shots for Sacramento State.

Aggie goalkeeper Tommy Siragusa recorded two saves while Castillo had one for the Hornets.

UC Davis returns to action Sunday when the team hosts Saint Mary's at 5 p.m. at Aggie Soccer Field.
