MORAGA, Calif. - Sara Ives scored two goals, including one during a late-game surge by Saint Mary's, as the Gaels' women's soccer team beat visiting UC Davis 3-0 in an exhibition game on Saturday afternoon at Saint Mary's Stadium.
The exhibition was the only one of the preseason for UC Davis which will officially open the 2010 campaign on Friday at rival Sacramento State. Allison Kelly had three shots for UC Davis, which had seven overall.
Ives put Saint Mary's on the scoreboard early in the game, scoring in the 15th minutes off an assist by Jordan Marada. It remained a 1-0 contest for nearly 65 minutes before Daelyn Paul's unassisted goal in the 79th minute ignited a late rally by the Gaels who added their final score on Ives' second goal in the 83rd minute. Brianna Campos was credited with an assist on Ives' second score.
Aisha Lott, Lisa Kemp, Ashley Edwards and Kirstin Holmberg also had shots for the Aggies. Goalies Kathleen Brandl and Maria Magana each had two saves.
UC Davis and Sacramento State, which will play at 5 p.m. on Friday, battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie last season.
