IRVINE, Calif. - A league-best four championships helped UC Davis place fourth in the 2009-10 Big West Conference Commissioner's Cup which was won by UC Santa Barbara, it was announced on Tuesday.

UC Davis, completing its third year in the Big West, had its best finish in the Commissioner's Cup.

The Cup is awarded to the institution with the best overall results across the conference's 18 sponsored sports championships. UCSB earned Big West banners in men's soccer, men's basketball and women's cross country to help it win the overall title for the eighth time in the 12-year history of the Commissioner's Cup.

Points are awarded depending upon each school's finish in each sport with the total divided by how many sports in which the school competes. Sport champions receive a 20-point bonus.

The Aggies, who were eighth during their inaugural year in 2007-08 and fifth last year, earned 1,820 points, averaging 101.1 points per sport. UC Davis was the only school to participate in each of the 18 championships.

UC Davis' total was bolstered by Big West Championships in men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving, softball and women's golf while also earning top points for women's basketball by virtue of its first-place finish in the regular-season standings.

The Aggies' 560 points during the winter season were the most in the conference.
