RENO, Nev. - UC Davis was defeated by Nevada, 6-1, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference men's tennis match at the Caughlin Club. Connor Coates picked up the lone win for the Aggies at No. 6 singles as the squad wrapped up its regular season schedule. UC Davis (8-12) will now turn its attention to the Big West Tournament, which begins Friday in Indian Wells, Calif.
Nevada (9-7) swept through doubles to take an early 1-0 lead. Four of the six singles matches finished in straight sets with three of those going to Nevada. At No. 1, Wessim Derbel defeated Nick Lopez, 6-4, 6-4. Laurent Garcin posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Tyler Lee at No. 2. Chris Aria was edged by Stefan Dmitrovic, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3.
The Wolf Pack picked up wins at No. 4 and No. 5, but Coates prevailed at No. 6. The Aggie freshman defeated Gabe Kanzelmeyer, 7-6, 6-3.
UC Davis will next face UC Santa Barbara on Friday in the first round of the Big West Tournament.
