DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis defeated Portland State, 6-1, Saturday in a non-conference men's tennis match at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The Aggies claimed a pair of doubles victories and then dominated singles with five more wins. Nick Lopez, Toki Sherbakov, Chris Aria and Connor Coates were all double-winners on the day. The victory improved UC Davis to 7-10.

Doubles began with an Aggie win at No. 3. Aria and Lopez teamed to defeat Kyle Erickson and William Nolan, 8-2. Next off was the match at No. 1 where Sean Eberle and Chris Rice posted an 8-5 victory over Nic Amaroli and Tyler Lee. The fate of doubles turned to No. 2 as Coates and Sherbakov completed an 8-5 win over Matt Erickson and Vetu Mam.

The 1-0 lead would be just the start for UC Davis. Sherbakov was once again dominant in singles with his sixth straight victory. The freshman defeated Alex VanDerschelden, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2. Aria and Coates also won in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.

Lopez needed three sets to get past Rice, 6-1, 6-7, 7-6, at No. 1. Tyler Lee was also victorious in three sets after defeating Eberle, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The lone point for Portland State (6-9) came as the result of a victory by Kyle Erickson at No. 5.

UC Davis is next scheduled to compete Sunday morning when it hosts Portland at 10 a.m.
