MORAGA, Calif. - UC Davis was defeated by Saint Mary's, 6-1, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's tennis match at the Korth Tennis Complex. The host Gaels won two out of three in doubles to take a 1-0 lead and went on to win five out of six in singles. The Aggies were playing without their top two players and claimed a win at No. 4 singles from Nic Amaroli.

UC Davis (4-8) started doubles with a win at No. 2 as Connor Coates and Hunter Lee defeated Michael Carreno and Andrew Zannoni, 8-5. SMC (3-9) countered with a win at No. 3 to tie doubles. At No. 1, it was Gavin Leon and Lucas Tirelli who defeated Amaroli and Tyler Lee, 9-8, to clinch the first point of the match.

All but one of the singles matches were decided in straight sets. Amaroli posted his win against Leon with a 6-1, 6-4 decision. The only match that went past two sets was the one on court three where Sherif Hamdy defeated Hunter Lee, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5).

It will be a while before UC Davis is back in action. The Aggies are off until March 28 when they begin an eight-match homestand against Eastern Washington.
