DAVIS, Calif - The UC Davis men's tennis team returned to action Sunday and defeated Eastern Washington, 6-1, in a non-conference match at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. It was the first contest for the Aggies in 22 days and improved the team to 5-8 overall. The Eagles won the doubles point before UC Davis swept singles.

EWU (5-11) won two out of three in doubles. The lone Aggie win was also the first one to finish. Connor Coates and Toki Sherbakov defeated Fernando Mussolini and Julian Sanchez at No. 1 by a score of 8-4. EWU countered with a pair of 8-6 victories at No. 2 and No. 3 to take the early 1-0 lead.

The advantage would not last long once singles started. Four of the Aggies' six wins came in straight sets. The only two three-set matches were at No. 1 and No. 5. Sherbakov was the winner at No. 1 with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory against Stefan Simikic. Nic Amaroli also came from behind at No. 5 with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win against Kyle Koetje.

Aria won in straight sets at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Sanchez. Tyle Lee was also victorious in the same manner at No. 3. Additional Aggie wins came from Hunter Lee and Coates.

Sunday's contest started a season-long eight-match homestand for the Aggies. UC Davis returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Montana at 2 p.m.
