SAN JOSE, Calif. - Daniel Cepin hit 4-for-4 with two RBI and Kyle Mihaylo hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to lead UC Davis to a 14-5 win over Air Force on the first day of the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament at Municipal Stadium in San Jose, Calif.

With the win, the Aggies improve to 7-6 overall while Air Force drops to 3-10.

Nathan Slater started on the mound for UC Davis and went 5.1 innings and struck out a season-high eight batters to get the win and improve to 2-1 on the season. Air Force's Kincaid Koehler was given the loss.

The Aggies got on the board first with three runs in the second inning. David Popkins, who hit 1-for-3 on the day with three runs, hit a single to third plase to get on base then advanced to second off a single by Eric Johnson. A wild pitch moved Popkins and Johnson an extra base and a fielding error by Koehler allowed Popkins to score. Johnson would cross home after Seth Batty hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score the second run of the inning and Scott Kalush had the Aggies' third run after a single by Cepin.

UC Davis then picked up three more runs in the third inning. Scott Lyman started the Aggie offense with a single through the left side then advanced to third after Popkins and Johnson walked. Lyman would score as would Popkins and Paul Politi would earn the third run of the inning for UC Davis.

The Aggie bats came out strong in the fourth inning as UC Davis would put up seven runs on five hits to take a commanding 13-1 lead. Air Force used three different pitchers to counter the Aggie offense, but was unsuccessful.

Lyman was 3-for-5 with one run, including a double, while Johnson was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

For Air Force, Addison Gentry was 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
