Scott Weltz will represent UC Davis at the 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Mar. 25-27 at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.

ABOUT THE NCAA DIVISION I CHAMPIONSHIPS
Hosted by Ohio State, the 2010 NCAA Championships will feature student-athletes from 48 different schools... A total of 235 swimmers and 35 divers will participate... The McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion has previously hosted the 2008 NCAA Women's Division I Swimming and Diving Championships

WELTZ RETURNS TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Senior Scott Weltz returns to his second straight NCAA Championships... He will compete in the 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly and 200 breaststroke it was announced Mar. 10... Weltz set an NCAA "B" Consideration time of 1:45.48 at the Texas Invitational Dec. 3, ranking him 23rd nationally... His qualifying time of 46.90 in the 100 butterfly at the same meet was a UC Davis record and places him 20th in Division I... He hit a time of 1:56.14 in the 200 breaststroke at the Big West Championships Feb. 20 to win the event... The mark is 19th-fastest in the country.

2009 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
Scott Weltz and Heidi Kucera represented UC Davis at the 2009 NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas, marking the first trip to an NCAA Tournament since 2003... Kucera competed in the 200 IM, 100 breast and 200 breast earning an 18th-place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:10.95... Weltz competed in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 breast and earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 200 breast and 200 IM.

UC DAVIS: BIG WEST CHAMPIONS
The Aggies swept the Big West Conference Championships Feb. 20 to bring home the third and fourth team championship ever in any sport for UC Davis as an institution since joining the Big West Conference... The women's team finished with a total of 864 points to outlast four-time defending champion UC Santa Barbara who finished with 852 points... The Aggie men also held off UC Santa Barbara and scored 958.5 points, the most ever by a winning team in a five-team Big West set up... Two-time defending champion finished with 896.5 points... The women broke ten UC Davis school records, one Big West Conference record and two meet records and nine NCAA "B" Consideration times while the men set two school records and hit 12 NCAA "B" Consideration marks.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND
Wednesday, Feb. 17
Kayleigh Foley, Linda Hermann, Katelyn Griffin and Bridget Bugbee set a meet, conference and school record in the 800 free relay with an NCAA "B" Consideration time of 7:17.96... Ashley Chandler, Morgan Lee, Kayleigh Foley and Jen Cadmus set a school record in the 200 medley relay and achieve "B" cut time with mark of 1:41.33... Alex Daneke, Jordan Lager, B.J. Scoggan and Scott Weltz earn "B" time in 800 medley relay and win event with time of 6:33.55.

Thursday, Feb. 18
Freshman Bridget Bugbee wins 500 freestyle with time of 4:52.29 which is a UC Davis record and an NCAA "B" Consideration time... Ashley Chandler, Morgan Lee, Kayleigh Foley and Linda Hermann win the 400 medley relay with a school record and "B" cut time of 3:42.52...Ashley Chandler's 100 backstroke split time of 54.51 in the leadoff leg sets a UC Davis record... Ashley Chandler breaks 27-year old UC Davis record in the prelims of the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.90... Linda Hermann earns "B" cut time in 200 IM (2:01.54)... Scott Weltz wins 200 IM with NCAA "B" Consideration time of 1:45.55... Adam Borchard hits "B" time in 500 freestyle (4:27.36)... Jordan Lager, Scott Weltz, Daniel Donnelly and Russ Underwood combine to set NCAA "B" time of 3:15.64 in 400 medley relay... Paul Navo wins 1-meter diving.

Friday, Feb. 19
Ashley Chandler sets meet record and breaks UC Davis record to win the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.03... Linda Hermann upsets 200 freestyle field with win in an NCAA "B" Consideration time of 1:48.89... Scott Weltz wins the 100 butterfly with NCAA "B" time of 47.17... B.J. Scoggan earns NCAA "B" Consideration time in 400 IM (3:54.58).

Saturday, Feb. 20
Jason Andrade wins first ever Big West Conference individual title with a win in 3-meter diving... Matt Herman records NCAA "B" time of 15:30.78 in 1650 freestyle... Scott Weltz wins third individual title with a win in the 200 breaststroke in an NCAA "B" time of 1:56.14... Daniel Donnelly records NCAA "B" time of 1:47.75 in 200 butterfly... Jennifer Meyer wins 1-meter diving... Bridget Bugbee sets UC Davis record in 1650 freestyle, breaking 27-year old mark... Kayleigh Foley and Ashley Chandler finish one-two in the 100 freestyle with Foley setting a UC Davis record in the event with a time of 49.45.

WELTZ NAMED BIG WEST CONFERENCE MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
For the second straight year, Scott Weltz was named the Big West Conference Male Athlete of the Year... The senior becomes the eighth athlete in Big West history to win the award in back-to-back years... Weltz led all swimmers at the 2010 Big West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships with three individual wins, placing first in the 200 IM, 100 butterfly and 200 breaststroke... Weltz also swam a time of 53.78 in the time trials of the 100 breaststroke, which stands as the fastest mark in the history of the conference... In his career, Weltz has won nine events at the Big West Championships and owns four conference records... Earlier this season, Weltz was named Big West Swimmer of the Week for the weeks of Dec. 8 and Feb. 3.

JAHN, MOTEKAITIS NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR
Women's head coach Barbara Jahn was named 2010 Women's Coach of the Year after leading the Aggie women to their first championship at the Division I level and UC Davis' third ever as an institution... The women's team won six titles at the Big West Championship en route to a program-best 864 points... Men's head coach Pete Motekaitis earned Co-Coach of the Year honors for the second straight year... He becomes the first to win the award two consecutive years since Pacific's Ray Looze won it four straight times from 1999-2002... Motekaitis led the Aggies to a perfect 8-0 dual meet season, including the team's first dual meet win against UC Santa Barbara, before winning the Big West Conference Championship with 958.5 points, the most ever in a five-team field... He shared the award with UC Santa Barbara's Gregg Wilson.

AGGIES IN THE NATIONAL SCENE
The UC Davis men's team is currently ranked second nationally in the CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Mid-Major Division I Poll and received 23 votes in the Division I poll... The Aggie women are ranked 19th... Several Aggie swimmers are also ranked nationally in individual events according to USA Swimming: • Adam Borchard: 41st in 1000 free (9:16.10) • Scott Weltz: 24th in 200 IM (1:45.48), 23rd in 100 fly (46.90), 20th in 200 breast (1:56.14), 31st in 100 breast (53.78) • Matt Herman: 48th in 1000 free (9:18.46), 77th in 1650 free (15:34.90) • Ashley Chandler: 73rd in 50 free (22.90), 89th in 100 free (49.98), 50th in 100 back (54.03) • Kayleigh Foley: 42nd in 100 free (49.45)
