SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis team was defeated by Cal Poly, 7-0, Sunday in a Big West Conference match in San Luis Obispo. The Mustangs won two of three in doubles before claiming all six singles matches. The loss drops UC Davis to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the Big West. Cal Poly improved to 1-7 and 1-0 in the conference.
The Mustangs won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the first point of the match. The lone win for UC Davis came at No. 1 where Hunter Lee and Nick Lopez defeated Matt Fawcett and Robert Foy, 8-6.
Cal Poly won five of six singles matches in straight sets. Fawcett defeated Lopez, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 1. Jordan Bridge was a 7-6, 6-3 winner over Toki Sherbakov at No. 2. The only match that took more than two sets was on court six. Brian McPhee defeated Connor Coates in a super tiebreaker, 10-5, after the two split the first two sets.
UC Davis concludes its Central Coast trip Monday at UC Santa Barbara.
