SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Davis women's tennis team was defeated by UC Santa Barbara, 5-2, Friday afternoon in the Big West Conference opener for both teams at the UCSB Women's Tennis Courts. The Gauchos swept doubles before winning four out of six in singles. Desiree Stone and Dahra Zamudio picked up wins for the Aggies at the top of the order.

Doubles began with a UCSB victory at No. 1 as Jordan Dockendorf and Natalia Lozano defeated Ellie Edles and Herzyl Legaspi, 8-2. The first point of the match was clinched when Tova Hausman and Sofia Novak upended Noelle Eades and Zamudio, 8-2, at No. 3. UCSB went on to also win the match at No. 2 doubles as it headed to singles with the 1-0 lead.

The Aggies tied the match at 1-1 when Zamudio quickly defeated Novak, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2. The next two matches went to the Gauchos at No. 6 and No. 3, respectively, to make it 3-1. Stone followed at No. 1 with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Lozano, and UC Davis was within 3-2.

At the same time, Annabel Gledden was close to finishing a straight sets victory over Lauren Curry at No. 4 to clinch the victory for UCSB. Hausman provided the final point at No. 5 by winning a super tiebreaker after splitting two sets with Edles.

UC Davis will close out its two-match trip Sunday at Cal Poly.
