DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis women's tennis team posted a 7-0 victory over UC San Diego Sunday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The team's played singles first, and the Aggies won all nine matches on the day. All but one of the singles matches were won in straight sets. The win improves UC Davis to 2-4 on the year while the Tritons dropped to 3-1.
Dahra Zamudio was the first to win in singles as the Aggie defeated Natalie Varnay, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2. Off next was Ellie Edles at No. 5 after a 6-2, 6-1 win over Katie Mulloy. UC Davis took a 3-0 lead when Lauren Curry completed a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Valerie Tang at No. 4.
The clinching win came on court six where Sidney Brady defeated Samantha Yeung, 6-4, 6-3. Additional singles wins were posted by Desiree Stone at No. 1 and Herzyl Legaspi at No. 3.
Noelle Eades and Zamudio picked up a doubles win at No. 3. Legaspi and Stone teamed at No. 1 for the same result. The final victory came at No. 2 from Curry and Edles.
UC Davis is next in action Feb. 27 when it takes on UC Santa Barbara on the road in its Big West Conference opener.
