SACRAMENTO, Calif. - UC Davis was defeated by No. 59 Sacramento State, 6-1, Friday afternoon in a non-conference women's tennis match at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. The host Hornets swept doubles before winning five of six in singles. Sidney Brady picked up a win in singles to account for the lone point for UC Davis (1-4).
Sacramento State began the match with three wins in doubles. The first victory came at No. 3 where Gayan Sarkisian and Aileen Tsan defeated Noelle Eades and Dahra Zamudio, 8-1. The doubles point was secured when Rebeca Delgado and Tatsiana Kapshai posted an 8-2 win over Lauren Curry and Ellie Edles at No. 2. The Hornets went on to also win at No. 1.
The first five singles matches to finish went to Sacramento State. They included a 6-0, 6-1 victory by Clarisse Baca against Curry at No. 4. Delgado then completed a straight sets win at No. 3 against Herzyl Legaspi to make it 3-0. The overall victory was clinched as the result of a win at No. 5 by Tsan. After wins at No. 1 and No. 2, Brady finished off Milica Zivanovic at No. 6, 7-6, 6-1.
UC Davis returns to action Feb. 21 at home against UC San Diego.
