SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis team was defeated by Sacramento State, 6-1, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. The host Hornets won all three doubles matches before picking up five more wins in singles. Connor Coates claimed the lone Aggie point with a win in singles.

Sacramento State led 1-0 following doubles and increased its margin to 2-0 with a win at No. 3 singles. Jason Smith posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Toki Sherbakov. Next off was Kiryl Harbatsiuk at No. 2 when he completed a 6-0, 6-3 win over Chris Aria to make it 3-0. Mark Starcevic provided the clinching victory at No. 4 in a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Hunter Lee.

After Sacramento State won at No. 5, Coates won in straight sets over Tim Lantin at No. 6. The Aggie freshman defeated the Hornet, 7-5, 6-2. Sacramento State finished the match with a win at No. 1.

The match came one day after the Aggies knocked off No. 71 Pacific on the road in their Big West opener.

UC Davis returns to action next weekend when it plays three matches in Portland. The Aggies will face Portland State, Montana State and Portland from Friday to Sunday, respectively.
