ATHERTON, Calif. - The UC Davis wrestling team concluded action at the Menlo Quad Duals at Haynes-Prim Pavilion on the campus of Menlo College Sunday. The Aggies went 1-2 on the day with a win against Menlo College.
UC Davis is now 1-8 overall in dual meet competition.
The Aggies began the day facing Southern Oregon who took a 24-16 victory. Mitchell Lofstedt put the Raiders on top when he pinned Chris Armendariz at 125 in the first round. Justin Arredondo got the Aggies on the board, however, with a 7-5 decision over Brian Jacob at 133.
Southern Oregon won the next two bouts to take a 13-3 advantage, but Trevor Machado-Ching earned a major decision over Brad Tamashiro at 157 to add four points to the Aggie side. David Watts then picked up an additional six points by forfeit at 165 to tie the score.
Despite Rory McBryde's 5-2 decision over John Harrison at 184, Southern Oregon earned a major decision at 174 and 285 and a decision at 197 for the 24-16 victory.
In the second match of the day, the Aggies picked up a 34-10 win over Menlo College. Highlighted by falls at 125, 133 and 184, UC Davis won seven of the 10 bouts in the victory.
UC Davis then went on to face Pac-10 rival Cal State Bakersfield but suffered a 30-12 loss. The Roadrunners earned a decision at 125 and a fall at 133 to take a quick lead, but Morgan Flaharty put the Aggies on the board with a 7-5 decision over Erik Martinez at 141.
Trevor Machado-Ching got his second victory of the day with a technical fall at 157 while David Watts went on to a 15-5 major decision over Dan Montanez.
Cal State Bakersfield, however, won the remaining four bouts for the 30-12 victory.
UC Davis returns home to host back-to-back Pac-10 dual matches at The Pavilion. The Aggies host Cal State Fullerton Friday, Jan. 29 at 6:00 p.m. then welcome Boise State Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
