DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis and Chico State completed a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon in a men's soccer exhibition at Aggie Soccer Stadium. The Wildcats scored a first half goal before an own goal late in the second half tied the game. It was the lone preseason tuneup for the Aggies.
The game was scoreless into the 30th minute before Chico State broke out on top. Kyle Crain converted a penalty kick to make it 1-0 with just under 16 minutes left in the first half.
It would stay that way well into the second half before an own goal tied the game with under four minutes left in regulation. The sequence started on a throw-in from the left side by Paul Marcoux. His throw sailed off the finger tips of the goalkeeper to give the Aggies their first goal of the day. The teams battled through a pair of 10-minute overtime periods without a goal.
Chico State outshot UC Davis, 11-9. Chris Leer and Chris Beville each had two shots for the Aggies.
UC Davis opens its season Sept. 1 at San Jose State. It will be the first of four road games before the Aggies play their home opener Sept. 13 against Washington.
