Bazemore Named Executive Assistant AD

July 10, 2009

DAVIS, Calif. - Mike Bazemore, most recently the Fiscal Coordinator for the University of Nevada Athletics Department, has been named the Executive Assistant Athletics Director for Business Operations at UC Davis, it was announced on Friday by Director of Athletics Greg Warzecka.

Bazemore will fill a position on the Aggies' senior management team created with the recent retirement of Senior Associate Athletics Director Bob Bullis. Bazemore will oversee the Intercollegiate Athletics' (ICA) operating budget while providing leadership and financial management expertise to head coaches and department unit directors. He will also supervise some yet-to-be named sports and work with various campus entities on budget and facility matters.

"Over the past 16 years, Mike has developed a strong understanding of the generally accepted accounting practices important to successfully run a complex intercollegiate athletics budget," said Warzecka. "He is known for innovative ways to save money and has shown the ability to manage the many demands of a Division I budget which is crucial in the economic environment currently challenging college athletics nationwide."

Bazemore has been a member of the Wolf Pack's administrative budget staff since 2006. Prior to Nevada, he was the Assistant Athletics Director for Business and Finance at the University of Central Florida from 2001-06. He was also the Assistant Athletics Director of Administration and Finance - and then later Associate Athletics Director - at Jacksonville University during a tenure that ran from 1993-2001.

He oversaw an athletics budget at UCF that expanded from $11 million to $20 million while he was there and also supervised the sports of men's soccer, women's soccer and baseball among other administrative duties. Bazemore fulfilled similar duties at Jacksonville while also serving as co-director at conference tournaments for men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball.

"I am excited to be joining the Aggies," said Bazemore. "It is a program with tremendous tradition, and I look forward to being a part of a great future."

Bazemore earned his bachelor's of fine arts degree in radio and television, with a business minor, from Sam Houston State University in 1982. He received his master's in sport administration from St. Thomas University in Florida in 1992.

Bazemore will begin his new position at UC Davis on July 20.

UC Davis will offer 27 varsity sports this fall and is entering its third year of Division I membership. The Aggies are members of the Big West Conference in 19 sports while holding memberships in several other conferences for the remainder of sports.
