SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A big first inning propelled UC Santa Barbara to a 12-0 victory over UC Davis, Sunday, in a Big West Conference softball game at Campus Diamond. The Gauchos scored all of their runs in the decisive first frame.
Amanda Zeigler highlighted the inning with a three-run homer that capped off the scoring. Earlier in the inning, Jessica Beristianos had a two-run double. UCSB collected nine hits in the inning, but only four of the 12 runs were earned.
Alex Holmes pitched 3.1 innings in relief for the Aggies and did not allow an earned run. She surrendered three hits and did not walk a batter. Krista Cobb gave up one hit, a double by Jessica Hancock in the second inning, on her way to the five-inning shutout for UCSB.
UC Davis returns to action Friday when it takes on Cal State Northridge in a doubleheader at noon at La Rue Field. The three-game set with the Matadors concludes Saturday and will coincide with Senior Day.
