DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Pacific, 5-4, Sunday, in a Big West Conference softball game at La Rue Field. With the win, the Aggies swept the three-game series with the Tigers and improved to 19-16 overall and 4-2 in the Big West. Pacific fell to 15-22 and 0-6 in the conference.
Kelly Harman delivered the game-winning hit when she blooped a single down the right field line to drive in Julie Stauder with two outs in the seventh. Harman's hit followed a one-out sacrifice fly by Sarah Axelson that tied the game at 4-4.
Eight different Aggies had a hit as UC Davis collected 11 hits in all. Axelson, Harman and Rachel Miller each had two hits. Belinda Paine extended her hitting streak to 15 games with a single to lead off the deciding seventh.
Most of the game's scoring took place in the first three innings. After Pacific took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Erin Emde singled with one out in the bottom of the first to drive in Paine and tie the game at 1-1.
In the bottom of the second, Marissa Araujo led off with a walk before stealing second. Alex Holmes tripled to drive in Araujo and came home to score on an RBI-single by Miller. At that point, the Aggies led 3-1 heading to the third.
Pacific countered with two runs in the top of the third, and the game remained tied at 3-3 until the fifth. That's when the Tigers regained the lead on a two-out run-scoring double by Kellee Wilson to make it 4-3. It would stay that way until the bottom of the seventh.
Paine led off with the single, and Stauder walked to put runners at first and second. Emde sacrificed the runners to second and third to set up Axelson's sacrifice fly.
Holmes picked up the win in relief. She pitched the final four innings and allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts.
UC Davis is next in action Wednesday when it hosts Nevada in a non-conference game at 2:30 p.m.
