DAVIS, Calif. -- No. 22 Cal Poly came from behind to defeat UC Davis, 7-2, Sunday afternoon in a Big West Conference softball game at La Rue Field. UC Davis (21-26, 5-10 Big West) took an early 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by Kelly Harman. Cal Poly (34-9, 13-2) was then forced to come back for the second straight game to remain in first place in the conference and extend its winning streak to 13.
On Sunday, the Aggies scored twice in the first inning against the Mustangs. This time, it was the result of consecutive extra base hits. With one out, Julie Stauder doubled into the left field corner. Next up was Harman, who launched her team-leading fifth home run to left center to give UC Davis a two-run cushion.
The Mustangs responded with two runs in the top of the second. With the bases loaded and two outs, consecutive walks forced in the runs to tie the game at 2-2.
It stayed 2-2 into the fifth when Cal Poly scored twice to take a 4-2 lead. Stephanie Correia made it 3-2 on an RBI-triple before Cristen Lee singled to drive in another and give the Mustangs a 4-2 lead. Cal Poly added an unearned run in the sixth and two more runs in the seventh.
Alex Holmes had two of the Aggies' six hits. Sarah Axelson, and Rachel Miller also had a hit each.
UC Davis is next in action Wednesday when it hosts California in a single game at 3 p.m.
