DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis nearly rallied from behind to defeat Cal Poly in a Big West Conference men's tennis match before falling by the slimmest of margins in its regular season finale Saturday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The Mustangs ultimately posted a 4-3 victory but had to withstand a singles attack by the Aggies that featured a pair of wins at the top of the order.

One of those victories came from Michael Reiser, who played his final home match as part of Senior Day. After the Mustangs swept doubles to take a 1-0 lead and made it 2-0 with the first win in singles, Reiser finished off Andrew Gerst, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2. Cal Poly's Blake Wardman made it 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Nic Amaroli at No. 6.

The next match to finish was on court one as the Aggies' Nick Lopez defeated Drew Jacobs, 7-6, 6-3, to pull UC Davis within 3-2. The remaining two matches went to three sets, and the Mustangs used a victory by Alexander Sonesson at No. 3 to clinch the win. Sonesson had to battle back from a first-set defeat to post a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory against Hunter Lee. At the same time, Chris Aria was busy defeating Darryn Young, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, at No. 5 to account for the final point of the match.

UC Davis will next be in action April 17 when it begins play at the Big West Tournament.
