DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis team was defeated by UC Santa Cruz, 4-3, Saturday in a non-conference match at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The Banana Slugs won the doubles point and held on with three wins in singles. Hunter Lee and Nick Lopez each picked up wins in doubles and singles for UC Davis (1-8).

UCSC (5-4) won the first two doubles matches to clinch the first point of the day. Lee and Lopez defeated Ilya Gendelman and Max Liberty-Point, 8-5, at No. 2.

Singles began with a straight sets victory at No. 2 by Michael Reiser, who cruised past UCSC's Jared Kamel, 6-0, 6-4. The Banana Slugs regained a 2-1 lead as Colin Mark-Griffin defeated Tyler Lee at No. 5. UCSC made it 3-1 with a win at No. 6 before the next two matches went to UC Davis.

Lee started the rally with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 win over Max Ortiz at No. 3 to pull the Aggies within 3-2. The next match to finish was on court 1 where Lopez completed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win against Liberty-Point. The clinching match came down to No. 4 where Gendelman outlasted Chris Aria, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.

UC Davis is next in action Sunday when it hosts Nevada at noon.
