Final Stats
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Drew Johnson and Stephen Yarrow hit solo home runs, and San Francisco scored four runs in the third inning en route to a 6-0 shutout victory over UC Davis in a non-conference baseball game at Benedetti Diamond Tuesday afternoon.
The victory improves the Dons to 10-14 overall and gives them a season sweep over the Aggies in two games. UC Davis falls to 3-13 with their second shutout loss of the season.
San Francisco scored four runs in the third inning and then received solo shots from Johnson in the sixth and Yarrow in the eighth. Matt Chavez doubled with the bases loaded in the fourth to bring home a game-high three runs. Dane Braunecker finished a game-best 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Dons.
UC Davis was led by a 2-for-4 performance from senior Ryan Scoma and a triple off the bat of sophomore Scott Heylman. Sophomore Grant Bauer and senior Grant Hirneise also singled in the game.
Alex Kalogrides got the start for the Dons and struck out four batters through the first three innings to pick up the win. A total of five USF pitchers combined for the five-hit shutout. Aggie starter Scott Chew was saddled with the loss.
The Aggies threatened in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings with two runners on base, but failed to bring them home. In the eighth, Scoma and Ty Kelly reached base to start the inning. USF got out of the jam with a double play and a ground out in the next two at bats. Heylman's triple came with two outs in the fifth.
UC Davis returns to action tomorrow when they host Stanford at Dobbins Stadium at 2:30 p.m. The game will be simulcast on KDVS 90.3 FM and ucdavisaggies.com.
