FRESNO, Calif. - No. 23 Fresno State swept UC Davis Tuesday night in a non-conference doubleheader at Bulldog Diamond. The Aggies fell 3-0 in the first game while suffering a 2-1 loss in eight innings in the second game. Bianca Castillo drove in the lone Aggie run in the top of the eighth of game two. UC Davis dropped to 15-14 on the year.
In the first game, Fresno State (19-12) took advantage of two errors in the first inning to score three unearned runs. As it turns out, it would be the only scoring in the game. Rachel Miller went 2-for-3 in the contest while Belinda Paine, Erin Emde and Jessica Gonzalez each had a hit.
Strong pitching continued into the second game as neither team scored through seven innings. UC Davis finally broke through in the eighth as Marissa Araujo doubled with one out and came around on a single by Castillo to make it 1-0. The lead would be short-lived, though, as the Bulldogs rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth to claim the win.
Fresno State outhit UC Davis, 7-6, in the second game. Paine and Araujo each had two hits in the contest.
UC Davis is next in action Saturday when it begins Big West Conference play at Long Beach State.
