DAVIS, Calif. - Travis Simas singled to left field in the 11th inning to score Shaun Kort from second base, and Sammy Miller retired all three batters in the bottom half of the inning to lift Nevada to a 2-1 victory over UC Davis in non-conference baseball action at Dobbins Stadium Tuesday afternoon. Ty Kelly drove in the Aggies' only run in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.
The loss drops the Aggies to 2-9 overall while Nevada improves to 4-8.
UC Davis got a solid pitching performance from freshman Tyler Bremer, but left 13 men on base in their fourth straight loss. Bremer put together a career game as he struck out 10 batters, gave up only four hits and did not allow an earned run in eight innings of work. At one point in the game Bremer retired 17 straight batters and had four consecutive strikeouts. He is the first Aggie pitcher to strikeout 10 batters in one game since Bryan Evans did it during the 2007 season.
Kelly led the Aggies with two hits and the RBI-single in the ninth inning. Eric Johnson played first base and catcher while also collecting two hits in the contest. A total of nine UC Davis players accounted for the team's 11 hits.
Nevada was led by Simas' RBI and a two-hit performances from Tyson Jaquez and Brett Hart. Hart also scored a run. Sammy Miller pitched the final three innings to earn his second win of the season.
Nevada opened the scoring with an unearned run in the eighth inning during a two-out rally. Hart and pinch hitter Nick Melino singled in back-to-back at-bats and Hart was able to score during the play on a fielding error on the Aggie right fielder.
Kelly knotted the score at 1-1 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning with his single to center field that scored Daniel Cepin from second.
The Aggies loaded the bases in the fourth and sixth innings but were unable to bring the runs home. They also had the bases loaded in the ninth inning following Kelly's RBI-single.
UC Davis is back in action tomorrow when they host Santa Clara at 2:30 p.m.
