MORAGA, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis team was defeated by Saint Mary's, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Korth Tennis Complex in Moraga. The Gaels swept doubles before taking five of six in singles. Nic Amaroli accounted for the lone Aggie point with a win at No. 6.
In doubles, Amaroli and Michael Reiser were defeated at No. 1 by Maxime Olivan and Lucas Tirelli, 8-5. The Gaels' Achim Christner and Sherif Hamdy were 8-6 winners over Hunter Lee and Nick Lopez at No. 2. It was Gavin Leon and Mike Luck taking an 8-4 win at No. 3 against Josh Albert and Tyler Lee.
Olivan gave Saint Mary's a 2-0 lead when he completed a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 4 against Tyler Lee. Leon's straight sets win over Hunter Lee at No. 3 made it 3-0, and Tirelli defeated Lopez at No. 1 to clinch the overall win. Amaroli won a super tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets with Hamdy.
UC Davis (1-6) is next in action Saturday when it plays at Santa Clara.
