MORAGA, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis team finished strong at the Saint Mary's Gael Classic on Sunday. The Aggies claimed seven wins between main draw and consolation action. A pair of UC Davis doubles teams won twice while three more Aggies posted singles wins.
In the main draw, two Aggie duos began the day in the quarterfinals of the White doubles. Chris Aria and Connor Coates were defeated in that round as were George Horowitz and Jack Horowitz. On the consolation side of the same draw, Josh Albert and Nick Hallchurch paired to win twice. The duo started the day with an 8-4 win over San Francisco's Mark DeCastro and Jacob Hartwig. They completed their day with an 8-5 win over Sonoma State's Scott Gaynor and Anthony Rollins.
Over in Red doubles, Torsten Keil-Long and Nick Lopez also won twice. They started by edging Cal Poly's Sebastian Bell and Brian McPhee, 9-7. They followed that with an 8-4 victory over the draw's top-seeded team of Bo Katsarov and Riki McLachlan of Cal. Nic Amaroli and Tyler Lee also picked up a Red doubles consolation victory.
Four Aggies competed in the White singles consolation draw. Tyler Lee defeated Nicholas Lautoa of Saint Mary's, 6-3, 6-2. Amaroli also was victorious with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Coates. Lee went on the defeat Amaroli, 6-4, 6-2, in the next round.
The three-day tournament concludes fall action for the Aggies. They will next be in action Jan. 16 when they begin their regular season at Santa Clara.
