FRESNO, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis team completed a successful second day at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic Saturday with a total of six victories. The action included a pair of all-Aggie matches with UC Davis figuring in a two finals on Sunday.
In singles action, Nic Amaroli and Connor Coates each advanced to the final of the Flight C consolation draw. Amaroli, who was earlier defeated in the quarterfinals of the main draw, defeated San Francisco's Peder Steen, 6-1, 7-5, in the consolation first round and advanced through to the final via a bye and a default. On the other side of the bracket, Connor Coates defeated Nevada's Tony Bulich, 6-0, 6-3, in the first round while Jack Horowitz advanced with a first round default.
That set the stage for an all-Aggie semifinal where Coates defeated Horowitz, 6-4, 6-1, to advance to Sunday morning's final against Amaroli.
In doubles, Amaroli and Tyler Lee each won twice in the Flight B draw to advance to Sunday's final. The duo started the day with an 8-6 victory over Nevada's Gabe Kanzelmeyer and Kristian Kuharszky in the quarterfinals. In the same round, Chris Aria and Coates defeated USF's Elnar Hart and Rainer Nachbauer, 8-4. In the semifinals, Amaroli and Lee defeated Aria and Coates, 8-4.
Sunday's schedule features Amaroli and Lee taking on Cal Poly's Brian McPhee and Robert Zacks in the Flight B final at 9 a.m. Amaroli and Coates are scheduled to square off in their consolation final at 10 a.m.
