BERKELEY, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis team completed the second day of the Wilson/ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Berkeley on Saturday. The Aggies finished main draw competition and also started consolation play. The main draw matches featured the beginning of doubles while several Aggies took part in singles consolation matches.
On the doubles side, Torsten Keil-Long and Nick Lopez posted a round-of-64 victory with an 8-4 decision over Saint Mary's Matt Welty and Steven Dawson. The duo was defeated in the next round, 9-8 (1), by Sacramento State's Holden Ching and Marko Starcevic.
Another Aggie duo, Nic Amaroli and Tyler Lee, was also victorious in the initial round. The pair defeated Sacramento State's Nick Gwerder and Nathan Wells, 8-1, to advance to the round of 32. It was there that Cal's Jonathan Dahan and Pedro Zerbini eliminated the Aggies, 8-2.
In singles consolation, Toki Sherbakov posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Welty in the first round. The Aggie advanced to the third round via a bye, and a walk-over propelled him to the fourth round set for Sunday.
Additional matches for UC Davis on Sunday will take place in doubles consolation. Hunter Lee and Sherbakov will represent one team while Chris Aria and Connor Coates will also be in action.
