DAVIS, Calif. -- The UC Davis women's tennis team blanked UC Santa Cruz, 7-0, Saturday in a non-conference match at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The victory was the second in as many days for the Aggies, who capped off a perfect two-match homestand and improved to 4-3 on the year. The Banana Slugs dropped to 0-2.
UC Davis used 10 of the 11 players on its roster between the three doubles and six singles matches. The contest started with a sweep in doubles, started by an 8-0 win by Andrea Phillips and Emma Shapiro at No. 3 against Chloe McHugh and Rebecca Parker. The clinching doubles match came at No. 2 where Sidney Brady and Jenna Kappel defeated Danielle Burke and Chrissy Nichol, 8-2. That gave the Aggies a 1-0 lead before Herzyl Legaspi and Dahra Zamudio closed out doubles with a win at No. 1.
The Aggies had the same type of success in singles and quickly picked up three wins to clinch the match. Schuler was first off at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Taylor Mannix. Noelle Eades won by the same score at No. 6 against Parker to make it 3-0. Jessica Harris provided UC Davis with the clinching win at No. 4 in a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Nichol. Shawdee Rouhafza, Legaspi and Kappel provided additional wins. The Aggies allowed just a total of eight games in winning all of their matches in straight sets.
UC Davis returns to action Feb. 5 when it faces San Francisco on the road.
