SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - UC Davis won five matches, four by bonus-point decisions, but San Francisco State benefited from two forfeits and a pin at heavyweight to earn a 24-23 upset victory over the Aggies during a non-conference wrestling dual at Main Gymnasium Saturday night.

The Aggies, who were forced to forfeit at 133 and 174 pounds due to injuries, drop to 6-4 in dual action this season while the Gators improve to 6-4. SF State was ranked 20th in the latest NCAA Division II poll entering the dual. It marked the Gators' first dual victory over the Aggies in eight chances and their first win over UC Davis since the 1996-97 season.

Sophomore Barrett Abel lifted his undefeated dual to 10-0 with a pin over Josh Nolan at the 2:55 mark at 149 pounds. Abel has now won four of his last five dual matches by bonus-point decisions, three of which came by fall.

Senior Dustin Noack opened the dual with a victory by fall over Matt Mungo at the 1:42 mark in the 165-pound match. Following an Aggie forfeit at 174 pounds, senior Jon Clark put the Aggies ahead, 10-6, with a 14-6 major decision over Marques Gales at 184 pounds.

The Gators reeled off four straight victories, including a pin at heavyweight and another forfeit at 133 pounds, to claim a commanding 24-10 lead that the Aggies could not overcome.

UC Davis won the final three matches, which included a pin from Abel at 149 pounds and a 15-3 major decision from redshirt freshman Joey Wilson at 157 pounds, but fell just shy of tying or winning the dual. Senior Nexi Delgado opened the three-match Aggie steak with a 5-4 decision at 141 pounds.

Freshman Rory McBryde became the third Aggie to see their collegiate debut during the weekend when he competed at 197 pounds.

The Aggies return home for the first time in over a month when they host Pacific-10 Conference foe Oregon State at The Pavilion on Friday, Jan. 30. The 7 p.m. dual features the Zalesky vs. Zalesky sibling matchup between the two head coaches.
