Sept. 7, 2008

Final Stats

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Four different UC Davis players scored goals, three of which came in the second half, to lead the 29th-ranked Aggies to a 4-2 victory over Michigan State during the final day of New Mexico's TLC Plumbing and Utility Invitational at UNM Soccer Complex.

UC Davis spilt its two games at the tournament to improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Spartans drop both of their games to fall to 1-3. The two teams combined to score five goals in the second half.

Senior Quincy Amarikwa led the Aggies with four total shots and managed three on goal, one of which gave him his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Senior Dylan Curtis had his second two-assist game of the young season while senior Sule Anibaba, junior Chris Leer and sophomore Miles Hadley added their first goals of the season.

Doug DeMartin led the Spartan attack with two goals and a game-high five total shots. Spartan goalkeeper Jeremy Clark made a total of six saves on 10 UC Davis shots on goal. Michigan State had four shots on frame.

Ryan McCowan had two saves in goal for the Aggies in the victory. He was also credited with an assist.

Amarikwa opened the scoring in the 11th minute by heading in a corner kick from Curtis. That would be the only goal in the first half of play.

The second half of the game was highlighted by five goals, three of which came from the Aggies. Hadley started the scoring in the 52nd minute when he headed in a long pass from McCowan.

DeMartin hit his first strike just over six minutes later with a header off the rebound of teammate Jeff Ricondo's initial shot.

The eventual game-winning score came off the foot of Anibaba in the 62nd minute as he collected a cleared ball in front of the goal and sent it past Clark.

The Aggies jumped ahead 4-1 in the 89th minute when Leer scored off an assist from Curtis. Leer's shot came from the right side of the box.

Michigan State added its final goal with 21 seconds remaining in the game on an unassisted strike from DeMartin.

UC Davis returns home on Sunday with a game against San Jose State at 1 p.m.
