Box Score

Sept. 28, 2008

Final Stats

RENO, Nev. - Samantha Faber scored the game-winning goal with just over two minutes remaining to lift UC Davis over Nevada, 2-1, in non-conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Mackay Stadium in Reno. The win gives the Aggies a four-game winning streak with all of the wins coming on the road. Gabina Bohlman also scored for UC Davis, which improved to 5-2-2 on the year.

UC Davis turned a scoreless contest into a 1-0 lead with just under two minutes remaining in the first half. The play started on a long thrown-in by Lauren Huntley and ended on a header by Bohlman that found its way into the goal. For Bohlman, it was her second goal of the season while Huntley upped her assist total to two.

Both teams were held below their season average for shot attempts, but it was the UC Davis defense that kept consistent pressure on the Wolf Pack. The Aggies allowed five shots in the first half and just one shot in the final frame. It was that one shot that turned into a goal as Erin Smith connected just 100 seconds into the second half to tie the game at 1-1. Nevada would be held without a shot for the remainder of the game.

The Wolf Pack defense matched the Aggie defense as the score remained tied for the next 41 minutes. In the 88th minute, with just 2:17 remaining in regulation, Faber lined up a free kick and blasted it past the Nevada keeper for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. The score came from 30 yards out and was the third of the season for Faber. The sophomore is now tied with Rochelle VanBuskirk for the team lead in goals.

In all, UC Davis outshot Nevada, 14-6. Sarah Peters finished with two saves in goal for UC Davis while picking up her fifth win of the season.

The loss kept Nevada winless at 0-7-2.

The win was the third straight for UC Davis by a 2-1 score. All four of the Aggies' wins on the current streak have been by one goal. UC Davis is a perfect 4-0-0 on its current six-game road stretch. The Aggies are next in action next week, on the road, when they open Big West Conference play against Long Beach State on Friday and UC Irvine on Sunday.
