Sept. 21, 2008

Final Stats

POCATELLO, Idaho - UC Davis made its trip to Idaho a fruitful one after defeating Utah Valley, 2-1, Sunday afternoon on the final day of action at the Idaho State Classic in Pocatello. The win capped off a perfect 2-0 mark for the Aggies in the four-team tournament and extended their season-long winning streak to three. Rochelle VanBuskirk and Marisa Boge each scored goals for UC Davis, which improved to 4-2-2 on the year.

Boge started the scoring in the 19th minute when she connected for her second goal of the season to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead. Gabina Bohlman picked up the assist on the goal.

It didn't take long for the Aggies to increase their lead as VanBuskirk scored in the 28th minute. The sequence started with a long kick by goalkeeper Sarah Peters and was capped off by VanBuskirk's team-leading third goal of the year. Peters was credited with an assist on the score, which upped the Aggies' lead to 2-0.

Utah Valley cut the deficit in half when Ashley Burdett scored with less than three minutes remaining in the first half.

As it turns out, the first half scoring was all UC Davis would need as the Aggie defense virtually shut down the Wolverines in the second half. UC Davis outshot UVU, 23-6, overall and held a 9-1 advantage in the second half.

VanBuskirk topped the Aggies with eight shots while Elise Winbrock and Molly Scott each had three. Peters finished the game with two saves and picked up her fourth victory.

The Aggies started the tournament Friday with a 2-1 victory over host Idaho State. UC Davis is now a perfect 3-0-0 on its current stretch of six games on the road. The Aggies are next in action Sept. 28 at Nevada.
