Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Senior Dylan Curtis converted a penalty kick in the 104th minute to send No. 23 UC Davis to a 2-1 double overtime victory over San Diego during the opening day of the San Diego/San Diego State men's soccer tournament at Torero Stadium Friday night.

The win improves the Aggies to 5-1 while the host Toreros drop to 0-4-2 on the season.

Senior Quincy Amarikwa scored his sixth goal of the season in the sixth minute to give the Aggies an early lead. Amarikwa took a pass from Ahmad Hatifie and chipped it over San Diego goalkeeper Kelin Briones for the score.

Curtis's goal was his second of the season and his second game-winning strike. Amarikwa and redshirt freshman Nate Jarman tied for the game high with four total shots.

The Toreros benefited from an Aggie own goal in the 10th minute of the game and held on behind five saves from Briones to force the game into extra time. UC Davis outshot San Diego by a 17-3 count.

All three of the Toreros' shots found the frame, but Aggie goalkeeper Ryan McCowan saved each one to keep the game knotted at 1-1.

Along with outshooting San Diego, the Aggies also held the advantage in corner kicks by an 8-0 count.

The Toreros played the final 63 minutes of the game a man down after J.T. Howlan received a red card with five minutes remaining in the first half.

UC Davis completes its run in San Diego on Sunday with a game at San Diego State at 1 p.m.
