Amarikwa Grabs Conference Player Of The Week Honors

Sept. 1, 2008

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis men's soccer player Quincy Amarikwa was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Aug. 31, the conference announced Monday. Amarikwa earns the conference's first player of the week honors of the 2008 season and the first weekly honors of his collegiate career.

Amarikwa, a senior from Bakersfield, was the offensive spark in both of the Aggies' victories during their opening weekend at the Copa de Causeway. Amarikwa led UC Davis to a 2-0 showing and a tournament title with three goals in two games. He scored two goals in four minutes during the season-opening 3-1 victory over Long Island. He then tallied the game-winning goal in the 89th minute in a 1-0 win over Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday. For his efforts, Amarikwa was named to the all-tournament team along with teammates Ian Conklin, Jordan Vanderpoorten and Chris Beville.

The Aggies had three players earn weekly conference accolades last season. Amarikwa was a second-team all-conference selection as well.

UC Davis hits the road this weekend at the TLC Plumbing and Utilities Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. They open the tournament Friday against No. 21 Louisville at 1:30 p.m.
