DAVIS, Calif. -- Senior Quincy Amarikwa headed in a cross from sophomore Chris Beville with under two minutes remaining in the game to lead No. 30 UC Davis past Cal State Bakersfield in the final game of the Copa de Causeway men's soccer tournament at Aggie Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Aggies open their season with two wins at the tournament to earn their second consecutive first-place showing while the Roadrunners drop to 0-2. Co-host Sacramento State also won two games, but lost the tie breaker to the Aggies based on goals scored deferential, 4-3.

UC Davis outshot its former Division II rival 13-1, but six saves by Bakersfield goalkeeper Steve Trojanowski kept the game scoreless until the 89th minute when Amarikwa scored his third goal of the season. Beville served the ball to the far post, and Amarikwa, a Bakersfield native, headed it to the upper right post to give the Aggies the win.

UC Davis had good looks at the goal several times in the game, but Trojanowski made spectacular saves to keep the Roadrunners within striking distance. Four of Trojanowski saves came from his back, including consecutive saves from the ground in the second half.

The Aggies missed another scoring opportunity right before the end of the first half when Beville sent a shot off the top of the cross bar.

Senior Ian Conklin had four shots on goal during the game to lead all players. Junior Paul Marcoux matched his game-high with four shots, one of which came on frame.

For UC Davis, Amarikwa and Beville were named all-tournament along with Conklin and senior Jordan Vanderpoorten. Conklin managed five shots in the two games while Vanderpoorten led an Aggie defense that allowed only one goal in two games.

The Aggies continue their run of tournaments next weekend as they travel to Albuquerque, N.M. for the TLC Plumbing and Utilities Invitational. UC Davis opens with No. 21 Louisville on Friday at 5 p.m. before facing Michigan State Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
