Aug. 24, 2008

Final Stats

FRESNO, Calif. - Rochelle VanBuskirk scored her first goal of the season with just under six minutes remaining to lift UC Davis to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Fresno State Sunday at Bulldog Stadium. Jordan Martin and Samantha Faber also scored for the Aggies, who trailed 2-1 midway through the second half. The win evens the Aggies' record at 1-1-0 on the year while the Bulldogs remained winless at 0-2-0.

Four of the game's five goals were scored in the second half. The lone first half goal came off of the foot of Martin, who connected on an assist by Gabina Bohlman 22 minutes into the game. It would remain 1-0 through halftime and into the 55th minute. That's when the Bulldogs tied the score on a goal by Elora Martinez.

Fresno State took the lead 12 minutes later as Nicole Gutierrez scored an unassisted goal to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead with just over 22 minutes to play.

The lead would last less than two minutes as Faber converted a penalty kick in the 69th minute to tie the game at 2-2. Both teams clamped down defensively for the next 15 minutes before VanBuskirk's game-winner in the 84th minute made it 3-2.

For the second straight game, UC Davis held a 16-9 advantage in shots. Marisa Boge led the Aggies with five shots while Faber and Martin each had three. Bohlman finished with two shots. Gutierrez had four of the Bulldogs' nine shots.

Sarah Peters picked up the win in goal for the Aggies. She posted six saves to even her record at 1-1.

UC Davis is next in action Aug. 29 when it hosts San Jose State in its home opener at Aggie Soccer Stadium.
