MORAGA, Calif. - Stefani Rocco scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead Saint Mary's past visiting UC Davis, 2-1, Friday in non-conference women's soccer action at Saint Mary's stadium. Gabina Bohlman gave the Aggies a 1-0 lead with a second half goal before Rocco's goals eventually tied and won the game for the hosts. The game was the season opener for both teams.
Bohlman, a senior, broke a scoreless tie when she connected on an assist from freshman Lisa Kemp in the 60th minute. For the next 24 minutes, UC Davis was able to protect the lead before Rocco's first goal with just over six minutes left in regulation tied the game at 1-1. Both teams battled to a deadlock for the remainder of the second half.
With barely nine minutes gone by in the first overtime period, Rocco chipped in a shot from about 15 yards out to give Saint Mary's the 2-1 victory.
UC Davis held a 16-9 advantage in shots. Samantha Faber led the game with four shots while Rochelle VanBuskirk had three. Bohlman and Rachel Kahn each had two. For the Gaels, Alex Ciliento had an assist along with three shots.
UC Davis is next in action Sunday when it plays at Fresno State.
