NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to edge UC Davis, 8-7, Friday afternoon in the second game of a doubleheader at Matador Diamond. Each team erased a three-run deficit in the contest, which featured a combined 28 hits. Trish Paine went 4-for-4 for the Aggies, and Ashley Johnson was a triple shy of the cycle in a 3-for-4 effort. UC Davis (24-35, 9-11 Big West) collected a season-high 15 hits. Johnson and Sarah Axelson each hit their fifth homeruns of the year.

Cal State Northridge (22-24, 11-9 Big West) scored two runs in each of the first two innings. In the first, Alexandria Alvarado delivered a one-out double to drive in Amanda Peek with the first run. With two outs, Jackie Duree had an RBI-single to make it 2-0.

The Aggies cut the deficit in half in the top of the second. With two outs, Johnson hit a solo homer to centerfield to pull UC Davis within 2-1.

In the bottom of the second, an error helped prolong the Matador inning and led to an eventual two-out, two-run homer by Peek to extend the lead to 4-1.

It stayed that way until the fourth when UC Davis exploded for four runs on five hits. Axelson started the scoring with a lead-off homer to make it 4-2. Johnson followed with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice by Lindsey Jones. Paine delivered an RBI-single, and the Aggies were down just 4-3.

With two outs, a Julie Stauder single and a walk to Deanna Menapace loaded the bases for Tracy Dean. The sophomore put UC Davis on top with a two-run single, making it 5-4.

UC Davis collected four more hits in the fifth inning as Stauder delivered a timely two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded to drive in Paine and Jones for a 7-4 cushion.

The momentum shifted back to Cal State Northridge in the bottom of the fifth as the Matadors put up three runs to tie the game at 7-7. Duree and Lauren Olivas each had run-scoring singles while the tying run came home on a groundout. It remained a 7-7 tie until the bottom of the seventh. That's when Tracy Allen gave CSUN the victory with a two-out infield single to drive home Duree.

Stauder finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Axelson went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jones posted a 2-for-2 effort. Peek and Duree each had three hits for the Matadors.

The two teams conclude their three-game series Saturday.
