The short story: UC Davis softball battled in its midweek showdown against No. 24 Stanford but ultimately fell in the matchup hosted at La Rue Field on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Stanford got its first two runs off Caroline Grimes in the third on a single and a sacrifice fly to go up 2-0
• The Cardinal added four more in the fifth, with only one being charged to Ellena Ediss who would throw three frames and allow just one earned run in a losing relief appearance
