STOCKTON, Calif. - Pacific scored four unearned runs in the fifth inning on its way to a 5-1 victory over visiting UC Davis, Sunday afternoon, in the final game of a three-game series at Bill Simoni Field. The Tigers scored their five runs despite being outhit, 4-3. The loss drops UC Davis to 16-26 overall and 1-5 in the Big West. The Tigers improved to 21-23 and 3-3 in the conference.
The first 13 batters of the game were retired as the game was scoreless into the third inning. Bianca Castillo singled with one out in the top of the third to become the first batter in the game to reach base. After a walk by Lindsey Jones, a pair of groundouts ended the Aggie threat.
Lauren Hickman led off the home half of the third with a home run to give the Tigers their first hit and the game's first run.
The Aggies were held at bay until the fifth inning when Castillo belted a two-out double. The freshman, who was stranded by a pop-out, had two of the team's four hits in the game.
In the bottom of the fifth, Pacific took advantage of two UC Davis errors and went on to score four unearned runs. The big hit in the inning was a two-run single by Kellee Wilson that made it 4-0.
UC Davis quickly put together a rally in the sixth. Michelle Espiritu led off with a single, and Trish Paine reached on an error that put runners at second and third. Julie Stauder promptly singled to right to drive in Espiritu to make it 5-1. After Deanna Menapace was hit by a pitch, the Aggies had the bases loaded with still no outs. Pacific's Chelsea Engle managed to get out of the jam with a groundout, pop-up and strikeout.
The loss overshadowed a strong outing by Jessica Hancock. The junior struck out four, scattered three hits and allowed just one earned run.
