DAVIS, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara scored three runs in the first inning on its way to a 6-2 victory over UC Davis, Sunday afternoon, at La Rue Field. UCSB (26-22, 9-6 Big West) scored its first run as the result of a fielding error before a groundout by Tisha Duran allowed another run to score. Ericka Hansen capped off the early scoring with an RBI-single to make it 3-0. The Gauchos added two more runs in the third to push their lead to 5-0.
UC Davis (22-31, 7-8 Big West) broke through in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Sarah O'Neill doubled. Emde followed with her third homer of the season, a blast over the left field fence, to make it a 5-2 game.
UCSB scored one more time in the seventh to take a 6-2 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh. UC Davis threatened as Jessica Gonzalez led off with a walk, and Trish Paine singled. The Aggies were unable to break through, though, after a fielder's choice, groundout and strikeout ended the game.
Prior to the contest, Lindsey Jones, Ashley Johnson and O'Neill were honored as part of senior day. Johnson finished the game 2-for-3 while and went 5-for-8 for the three-game series. O'Neill went 1-for-2 on Sunday.
Despite the defeat, UC Davis won two out three in the series and has won its past three Big West series. The Aggies are next in action Wednesday when they play a single game at No. 21 California followed by a three-game series at Cal Poly next weekend.
