INDIAN WELLS, Calif. - Cal Poly defeated UC Davis, 4-0, Friday afternoon in a Big West Conference Championship men's tennis quarterfinal match at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. The Mustangs, seeded No. 4, won the doubles point before winning the first three singles matches to finish.

In doubles, Rob Foy and Darryn Young defeated Daniel Elefant and Michael Reiser, 8-4, at No. 1 to give Cal Poly its first doubles victory. At No. 2, Andy Gerst and Alexander Sonesson defeated Justin Garcia and Henri Landes, 8-5. That victory clinched the doubles point for the Mustangs, giving them a 1-0 lead heading to singles.

Gerst posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Landes at No. 1 to increase the lead to 2-0. Cal Poly (12-9) made it 3-0 after Drew Jacobs defeated Garcia, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3. The Mustangs clinched the win after Tyler Lee retired following the completion of his second set against Nick Berger at No. 6. Lee won the first set, 6-4, before Berger tied the match with a 6-2 victory in the second set. The retirement gave Cal Poly the clinching fourth point of the match.

The loss for UC Davis, which was the No. 5 seed, ends its season at 10-13.
