RENO, Nev. - UC Davis was defeated by Nevada, 4-3, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's tennis match in Reno. The host Wolf Pack lost the doubles point but came back to win four out of six in singles. Daniel Elefant won his fourth straight match for UC Davis, which fell to 9-11 overall. The come-from-behind victory for Nevada (5-13) was just its fifth overall this season.
Doubles started with a Wolf Pack victory at No. 1 as Laurent Garcin and Guerin Smith defeated Elefant and Michael Reiser, 8-2. The Aggies countered with a win at No. 2 when Justin Garcia and Henri Landes defeated Benjamin David and Gabe Kanzelmeyer, 8-4. That left the doubles point up to the winner on court 3 where the Aggies' Nic Amaroli and Kevin Liang outlasted Alex Daruty and Kristian Kuharszky, 9-8 (2). The win gave UC Davis a 1-0 lead heading to singles.
Garcin started singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Landes at No. 1 to even the score at 1-1. The Aggies regained the lead when Elefant defeated Kanzelmeyer, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 5.
Nevada tied the match at 2-2 as David defeated Reiser in straight sets at No. 2. The Wolf Pack would win the next two matches that finished to clinch the win. The final contest to be completed was at No. 6 as Tyler Lee won a pair of tiebreakers to defeat Smith, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (8).
UC Davis is back in action Sunday when it hosts UC Irvine at 1 p.m. at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
